The Dutch Consumers Association is demanding a boycott of Microsoft’s Windows Vista operating system. The Consumentenbond move follows Microsoft’s refusal to offer free copies of Windows XP to those Vista users who wish to downgrade. The Dutch Consumers Association claims is has received more than 5,000 complaints about Vista from users. A Consumentenbond spokesman said that he didn’t believe Windows Vista was ready at launch. He said that Vista computers crash frequently, and that many printers and other peripherals fail to work.
Last week the Consumentenbond met Microsoft to ask for the free copies XP for Vista users, pointing out that Microsoft offers XP licences to business clients when they’re having problems. But Microsoft demurred, instead launching a website in Holland to help tackle many of the issues raised by the Consumentenbond.
Indeed, the Register reports that many Dutch Vista users feel that the Consumentenbond is creating a problem where there is none.
